“I have been a patient of Dr. Melissa Matthew for well over ten years. What first brought me to Dr. Matthew’s practice was sciatic nerve pain. The pain in my hips and lower back started in College when I was in an automobile accident and increased as I grew into my early thirties. I had received some chiropractic treatment after my accident and tried several chiropractors over the years, but I never found someone I felt comfortable with or that really helped my pain. The pain worsened in my late twenties and I saw a doctor and had an MRI done. I was told I had degenerative discs and what looked like early stage arthritis in my back. I did some physical therapy, but I still did not feel better. By the time I started treatment with Dr. Matthew, I had a slight limp due to pain in my hip and I was waking up in pain every night and propping myself up with pillows to get back to sleep. My wife introduced me to Dr. Matthew in my early 30’s and at first I was a bit skeptical because of my past history of lack of progress with other chiropractors. Dr. Matthew quickly recognized that my pain was due to years of walking, standing, sitting and sleeping with the bones and muscles in my back and hips out of proper alignment. She did not try to shove, pop or crack my back as every other chiropractor I had treatment from before did. Instead, she was able to use pressure in the right areas to gently move my bones and muscles into proper alignment. I would stand up after her adjustments and actually feel adjusted, standing taller and straighter than I had before her treatment. At first, I had regular adjustments as I needed to retrain my muscles and bones to keep in alignment. After a while, I was able to maintain proper alignment and only have an occasional adjustment. Dr. Matthew also consulted me on nutrition and supplements explaining that spasms in my muscles which were the primary cause of my issues, and could be lessened by changes to my diet. I am otherwise healthy and I have considered Dr. Matthew my primary care provider for some time now. She has successfully treated my wife when she was in an accident and I have even had her do occasional adjustments for my three children. I am now in my mid 40’s and, instead of my condition worsening as I grew older, I now walk without a limp or pain in my hips and I sleep soundly through the nights.”
